Transformational leadership and Project management
One of the many stints I have been through my experiences, the followers have shown exuberance to me is the change which is happening around them and transforming individual aspirations into realities via transformational leadership management. A leader transforms the needs, values, attitudes and aspirations of followers by a strong vision. A leader with a vision can lead organizations and individuals to successful and sustainable development by bringing in continuous change.
Organizations are driven by innovation, they continuously innovate to survive competition, growth, bring new ideas to products and drive change via transformational leadership. As part of project management, driving projects requires leadership style for a project manager to continuously manage resources and change as per time and business environment demands.
Project managers create opportunities for team members to connect and drive projects who can lead to successful delivery. Definitely a framework needed for managing transformations and change to drive innovation which is based on some fundamental questions to asked at the very beginning in planning phase like What, Who, When, Where, How etc. for resources(people, process, infrastructure etc) to be managed. Obviously transformational leaders share their vision with the team, they motivate individuals to their best, they do introspection, have integrity, believe in values and sustainability.
Here we can talk of leaders like Bill gates, Barack Obama, Steve Jobs are the few names in recent times have given a vision for everyone who is connected to them and created a sustainable and deliverable transformation which is the need of the hour.
Transformation leader creates a problem solving environment in which team member can participate to brainstorm and bring in solutions. It creates a sense of accountability, responsibility, makes them participative, creates change agents in the system and these change agents will create sub system change agents.
Here I would like to specifically mention the role of non profit organisation where individuals perform for organization above their self interest which creates a trust among team members to connect with each other. By this way a manager not only connects with team but also brings in integrity and accountability. Obviously transformational leadership style is just not one activity to be done but a gamut of styles which encompasses the many facets of an individual to be harnessed and leveraged.
Obviously here one cannot apply a hard and fast rule to bring in change and follow a particular leadership style and also a vision can be easily formulated and communicated. Please share your ideas to lead, motivate, transform and get buy-in from management.
